Versamark ink is one of my most used inks and, as the title
suggests, is multi-functional.
Made by Tsukineko, it is sold as a watermark ink pad, yet has quite a
few more uses. It differs from
many inkpads in that it is transparent, and is also a little bit sticky – this
means that mediums such as chalk, Perfect Pearls and embossing powder stick to
your stamped image easily, giving great results.
Let’s look first as its main use, as a watermark stamp
pad.
Used by itself, it gives an
image that is a little darker than the card or paper you are stamping on. This makes it ideal for subtle
background patterns, or for those times when you want an ink that is just a
shade or two darker than your card, but don’t have the right colour.

All you have to
do is ink up your stamp with the Versamark ink, stamp, and then set the image
with a heat gun.
For an easy way of giving your images some colour and/or
sparkle, again stamp with Versamark. Then lightly go over your image with
chalks, Perfect Pearls, or similar dry mediums. If you are a bit heavy-handed with your chalk, you can
use a chalk eraser. You don’t need
to worry about this with Perfect Pearls, any that are not on the image simply
brush off.
Note that you do not
need to set the image with a heat gun.
If you are concerned about the powders coming off, then you can set
Perfect Pearls with a very fine mist of water, and chalk images can be
protected with an artists’ fixative spray.

Versamark also comes in a pen format (especially handy for
filling in bits of images that didn’t stamp properly), and with added dazzle,
either as frost (silvery dazzle) or champagne (a light gold dazzle).
