TIPS & TECHNIQUES: Mixed Media Art Journaling by Gayle Price

Since we've been getting some questions and increasingly more renewed interests in mixed media products, we thought we should share with you some step-by-step tips and techniques projects that has caught our eyes.

Gayle Price's art journal page is based around Finnabair's beautiful range of stamps - The Dream On - available for sale at Scrap-n-Crop.com. With so much beautiful pattern and detail in it, it's one of Gayle favourite and ours too.

Gayle has also used textural stamps from the Dirty Walls set which she has white embossed with.

Step 1:
Gesso pages first then use a waterproof ink such as the Archival Ink, India Ink or Staz On Ink to stamp with.

Step 2:
Use Texture Paste through the stencil (any design of your preference) for some extra pattern and texture.

Step 3:
Use image transfer for the face. art basics Soft Matte Gel or Fluid Matte Medium works brilliantly for this process.

Step 4:
Add more stamping, dry emboss in white and add some washi tape. Tim Holtz Idea-ology masking tape is applied here, but you can substitute with any washi of your choice. We have a large choice of brands and designs here.

Step 5:
Finally some colour . Distress Spray Stains and water colour pencils. If you are into some glitz, glimmer and glam, check out sprays by Tattered Angels, Ranger Mica, Radiant Rain Heidi Swapp Color Shine and Perfect Pearls Mist. For intense colours, go for Smooch Spritz and Dylusions.
