Scrappy Angie's: Mixed Media Mini Series #2 [Pan Pastels & Glimmer]

Hi! It's Angeline again :)

Since I started this mini series last week - I have been getting very good responses from you and it seems we are all Mixed Media lovin' right now :) Keep those feedback coming and I may just do the tutorial on a technique or product you want to see.

***

For today's post - I will be doing an art journal piece using Pan Pastels and some Glimmer mist/glaze.

First of... WHAT is Pan Pastel?

PanPastel Colors are professional artists’ quality soft pastel colors packed in a unique pan format (cake-like). The special qualities of PanPastel Colors mean that artists can blend and apply dry color like fluid paint for the first time.

***

1. Get an art journal book - if you don't have this - you can do it on watercolor cardstock or any heavy weight paper so that it will not warp as much when you work so much medium on it.

Then, use a sponge applicator the to apply Pan Pastel. You just need a little color to cover a lot of space .. so a pan will last a long time!

*Tip #1: You can blend the colors right on the paper ... or if you want, you can mix the colors in the pan itself. If you do so, take a clean sponge and wipe of the blended color from the pan and you will get it clean and ready to go again!
*Tip #2: If you want to use the same sponge for different colors, remember to wipe off the excess color on a piece of scrap paper before you proceed to avoid any contamination of colors.

2. Next, I used some Glimmer Mist Marigold (Love love love!!) and misted both my pages with it. The camera is not picking up how beautiful the shine is - you have to see this in real to see how sparkly it is!

3. Next, pick your favorite stamp {I am using Unity Stamp Donna Downey Hollyhocks} and ink it with some Versamark. Stamp it across your page and let it dry.

4. Here's where the magic happens! Apply some Pan Pastel on the embossed areas (from the previous step) and it pops right off the page!!

5. Next, I used some Glimmer Glaze Orange Crush and painted some scripted words (which is trending right now too!)

6. Then I stamped a quote with some Archival Ink

*Tip: Using Archival Ink will ensure that the ink does not bleed if you spray/mist/paint any further on your page.

7. I then took some watercolor cardstock and sprayed it with more Glimmer Mist (Yes, it's Marigold again coz I am lovin' it!). Let it dry.

8. Using your misted watercolor cardstock,  punch out some glimmered butterflies. Again, my camera is not picking up the sparkle here.. *bah*!

9. Finally, I adhered down the butterflies with some Claudine Hellmuth's multi medium and I am done!

This journal page is truly beautiful. I appreciate the tutorial because I wanted to know how to recreate this pretty technique. I also am going to have to go find that holly hock stamp.
