Formerly an Associate Professor at a university, Dr. Soo Ling was actively involved in promoting craftwork among youths in Subang Jaya and Kuala Lumpur for 10 years prior to to moving to Ireland where she resides with her family.

Her passion continues despite leaving our shores as she continues to conduct craft workshops for adults in County Clare. Specialising in paper craft, acrylics and needle craft, Dr. Soo Ling writes - out from Ireland - for the New Straits Times, where she has a fortnightly column. 

As she'll be in town this May, Dr. Soo Ling will be conducting a Crop.Arty at Scrap-n-Crop.com on 11th May 2013 between 2 pm to 5 pm.

She will be guiding us through a 16-page mini album; an art form she simply loves as:

"Mini albums make fantastic scrapbooking gifts for friends or family that they'll love and treasure always. You can showcase only the best photos of any major event and the pages have lots of pockets, tags, pull-outs, doors and little hidden treasures. Making your own mini album gives you such a sense of accomplishment. You can easily complete one in an afternoon or a weekend."

As for the creation she'll be sharing, here what Dr. Soo Ling has to say:

"When people speak of opposites, it is usually in terms of black and white. Black, and its opposite white represent polarities.

Black is cloaked in mystery. It symbolizes protection, power and elegance. Its dramatic presence denotes strength and authority. A black Mercedes, a black suit and a little black dress all evoke strong emotions.

White on the other hand is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and safety. It is considered to be the colour of perfection. Remember the days of the black and white photography and films?

Though different, these two colours co-exist in perfect harmony."
