BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS MONTH
Well, March is coming to an end, but I'll just like to point out that March is brain injury awareness month. And Brain Injury is the whole reason why I got into this scrapbooking craze and how it blossomed into a business which ultimately robbed me of my scrapbooking time!!! Oh, the irony of it!
.
Back to brain injury awareness. Bryant was born on 4th July 2003 not breathing and literally blue. He was admitted to the ICU for 2 weeks after which we brought him home to care for him by ourselves. A first time mother normally learns to breast feed in hospital but for us, it was learning to tube feed Bryant, as he had no suckling instinct, let alone, no cries or movements. Later on in life we also learn that he is blind and deaf.
.
For the first year, we were told Bryant would not make it through his first birthday. We actually celebrated his birthday monthly not knowing when would his last be! Today, Bryant is coming to 7 years old and we are proud to say, he has truly been a brave and amazing boy. He is still spastic quadriplegic, blind, deaf, tube fed and epileptic but our visits to the hospital has lessened tremendously.

Through meeting parents with children similar to Bryant online, we met Serene who has been pivotal in helping us with the store as we grappled through the workings of blogging, twittering, newsletters, uploading etc...Today, Serene still helps us with our weekly newsletter and she is throughly my one source of hope and inspiration. Serene is mom to wonderful Jonathan Ho who just turned 13 this year. Jon goes to school and communicates by grunting or pointing...He is an amazing whiz in Spelling, would you believe that? It is truly amazing how kids like Jon and Bryant get through life with so little!

Brain injury which results in Cerebral Palsy affects 2 out of every 1,000 children. There is no cure at the moment but I am still hopeful of the future of stem cells. If you know of anyone suffering the same plight as us, we will be happy to share our experiences.
